1. Visit the Children's Library, 1276 Harriet St., for storytime,
craft activities and performers Toddler time (ages 18 months to 3 years)
Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m.; Preschool time (ages 3-5 years) Thursdays, 10:30
a.m.; Bedtime stories (all ages) second Wednesday of the month, 7 p.m.--Wear
pajamas; Afterschool special (grades 1-5) during the school year the
fourth Wednesday of each month, 2 p.m. Call 329-2134.
2. Walk, bike or Rollerblade with them in the annual May Fete
parade. The oldest children's parade in Northern California,
the marching usually begins at 10 a.m. The Addison Elementary School
carnival will follow. No fees. Call 329-2380.
3. Go for a picnic and feed the ducks at the Baylands' duck pond. The
best time of year is August and September. While you're at the Baylands,
go for a walk on the boardwalk behind the Interpretive Center. Call

4. Go watch a Children's
Theatre production at 1305 Middlefield
Road or at one of the After School Outreach Programs during the school
year. Performances are on Thurs.-Sun., including matinees and evenings.

5. Take them to one of the many city-sponsored seasonal events such
as the Summer Festival and Chili Cook-Off on July 4, or the Dogs Best
Friend Run.
6. Go fly a kite. An open field near the entrance of Shoreline
Park at the end of Shoreline Drive in Mountain View is the perfect
windy spot to fly regular as well as stunt kites. Another great place
to fly your kite is at the Windy
Hill Open Space Preserve, located in Portola Valley off Skyline
Boulevard.
7. Take them to Ano Nuevo State Reserve, the country's only
mainland breeding colony of elephant seals. The giant animals arrive
in great numbers from December through March to mate and give birth,
but the seals can usually be seen throughout the year. Guided tours
taking you on a three-mile sand dune hike are offered December through
March, and cost $4 per person. Children 3 years old and under are free.
From April through November, the beach is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4
p.m. for self-guided viewing of the seals. Located on Highway 1 about
25 miles south of Half Moon Bay. Parking is $5 per vehicle. Call 1-800-444-PARK

8. Go ice-skating at Winter Lodge, located at 3009 Middlefield
Road in Palo Alto. Established
in 1956, the Winter Lodge is open from late September to mid April.
Closed for summer. Lessons available. Single
admission
$7, skate rental $3.

9. Take them to Paramount's Great America, located on Great
America Parkway, off Highway 101, Santa Clara. A 100-acre theme park
featuring entertainment, rides, roller coasters and shows for all ages.
Admission is $28.95 general (age 7-59); $15.95 for ages 3-6; free for
2 and under; $18.95 for people 60 and older. Open select weekends beginning
in May, daily to Labor Day and then back to a weekend schedule until
the end of October. Summer hours Sunday through Thursday 10 a.m.- 9
p.m.; 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Call (408) 988-1800.
10. Go to the Junior
Museum and Zoo,
1451 Middlefield Road, to see bobcats, rabbits and hedgehogs.
