PHOTO EXHIBITION |
All winning photographs and selected finalists will be exhibited at The Palo Alto Art Center, 1313 Newell Road at Embarcadero. Exhibition will run June 8 through June 20. |
CONTEST RULES |
1. The contest is open to anyone who lives, works or attends school in Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton, Stanford, Woodside, Portola Valley, Mountain View, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and East Palo Alto. Palo Alto Weekly employees, sponsors and their employees, relatives and freelancers are not eligible.
2. Limit of one entry per category. A $15 entry fee must accompany each photo. Youth entry fee is $5 (17 years and under) Previous winning photos from this contest not eligible. Photo must have been taken within the past 5 years. Checks payable to Palo Alto Weekly.
3. Signed entry form must be attached to the upper right-hand corner of each entry. Names and titles should not appear on the front of photograph.
4. Entries must be matted or mounted on white 11 x 14 or 16 x 20 inch board only; photograph itself may be any size. Entries must be protected in clear acetate/mylar (available at University Art) so that the signed entry form on the back and photo on the front are clearly visible. No exceptions.
5. All entrants must indicate photographic methods used during shooting or editing, including manipulations (such as double exporsure, super-imposing and photo illustration), AS WELL AS any basic adjustments (such as color correction, dodging and burning, etc).
6. All WINNERS will be asked to provide an additional copy of winning image upon notification.
Images published in the Weekly may be subjected to photo cropping due to space limitations. Images will also be published on Palo Alto Online. |
JUDGES
VERONICA WEBER
Veronica Weber, a Los Angeles native, first began working at the Palo Alto Weekly in 2006 as a photogaphy intern. Following the internship she became a photographer for The Almanac. She returned to the Weekly in November, 2008 as the staff photogprapher responsible for covering daily assignments and producing video and multimedia projects for Palo Alto Online. She has a BA in Journalism from San Francisco State University and currently resides in San Francisco.
DAVID HIBBARD (Web site)
David Hibbard, a Menlo Park resident, has photographed natural landscapes and wild places most of his life. He is represented by Modernbook Gallery in Palo Alto. He is the author of, "Natural Gestures," published by Edition One Studios last year.
BRIGITTE CARNOCHAN (Web site)
Gallery 291 in San Francisco recently exhibited Brigitte's new photographic series, Imagining Then: A Family Story, 1941-47, also featured in the Jan-Feb issue of Lenswork Magazine and in the Frankfurter Algemeine Zeitung. She teaches regularly through the Stanford Continuing Studies Program.
ANGELA BUENNING FILO (Web site)
Angela Buenning Filo photographs landscapes in transition, most recently focusing on Silicon Valley and Bangalore, India. Her photographs have been been exhibited at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the San Jose Museum of Art. She teaches at Eastside College Preparatory School in East Palo Alto |
