About Julia Nelson-Gal

Julia Nelson-Gal's photo is the product of a unique inspiration and attitude toward imagery. She said that "right now I am more interested in finding an existing image in the world than taking an image from reality. I like the idea that someone other than me was the first one experiencing that moment in time - and now I am reviving it."

The 47-year-old artist has bachelor's and master's degrees in Art History, which she used in her careers at museums, auction houses and non-profits. She said that "at the museum I became so used to looking at the images made by others that it changed the way I make art."

Nelson-Gal especially likes the phone-booth images because there is no human involvement in the production of the photo, as a consequence they "have their own feel." If you were to look at the entry closely, you may be able to discern a bit of the encyclopedic page Nelson-Gal used as a background, highlighting things she found interesting.

Today Nelson-Gal is a full time artist, and has been for two and a half years. Her spare time is devoted to her three children and yoga.
