"Winter's Ghost"
By Ken Van Bree

About Ken Van Bree

Ken Van Bree's photographic skills have come a long way from when he first used a "brownie" camera in seventh grade.

Photography was a hobby until three years ago, when Van Bree became a professional, doing construction photography for the home building business. The construction business requires a timeline of photographs, as a construction project is built over time, he said. Likewise, his photographs combine that sentiment with nature.

The inspiration for his approach comes from the Internet bubble, he said.

"I worked for a high tech company. There was always talk about running projects on Internet time. I wanted at least one project that doesn't run on that schedule. I was tired of schedules. Nature runs on its own time," he said.

"Winter's ghost" was photographed over a three to four-month time span at Shoreline Park in Mountain View. From January to April, Van Bree returned to the same spot to photograph its natural changes. The work is a composite of two images, he said.
