About Max Lewis

Max Lewis was drawn to the Apple store on 5th Avenue in New York City not by his interest in photography but by his love of computers.

"I really like Macintosh computers, and the store that it was taken at was kind of Apple's flagship store," he said.

The Palo Alto High School freshman noticed the interesting staircase inside and reached for his digital camera.

"The glass is kind of transparent. I thought that it turned out really cool," he said.

Lewis started taking pictures on his own about two years ago, every so often getting help from his parents.

"I just kind of got into it. I don't know how. And I really enjoyed it," he said of the pastime that has become his main hobby.

His favorite subjects to photograph are abandoned buildings.

"It's a lot of fun, learning about some of the history behind the buildings and exploring them," Lewis said.

He has shot pictures of Fort Ord in Monterey and other "random" buildings he has happened upon.

This year he is taking a photography class at Paly to increase his exposure to photography.

"On your own you can take photos of whatever you want, but a class can be fun because it focuses on a certain subjects," Lewis said.
