Cassidy Lichtman recorded 15 kills and the Stanford women's volleyball team downed visiting UC Irvine, 25-15, 25-16, 25-18, in a nonconference match Thursday night. Alix Klineman added 10 kills and 12 digs as the third-ranked Cardinal (4-0) won the first match of the Stanford Invitational.

They're all on the same side now, though Sacred Heart Prep grads Paul Rudolph and Tim Norton still kid Menlo School grads Scott Platshon and Alex Avery about results from Central Coast Section water polo championship games. The 2010 high school football season gets under way this weekend for three teams that made the Central Coast Section playoffs last season and one that missed out in 2009 but has goals for a return. Kicking things off Friday night will be Gunn and Menlo School, both of which enjoyed long-awaited success in '09. Stanford cross-country runners hope for a return to the top
The 2009 cross-country season may go down in history as one of the worst in Stanford history, based on the combined effort of the Cardinal men's and women's teams at the NCAA Championships. The 2010 season, however, promises to be much better. In fact, the Stanford men will begin the season as the No. 1 squad in the nation after the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Association announced its preseason poll this week. Noyola honored as Pac-10 Player of the Week in women's soccer
Palo Alto High grad Teresa Noyola, a junior midfielder at Stanford, was named Pac-10 Women's Soccer player of the Week it was announced Tuesday. Noyola scored two important goals and assisted on a game-winner to help second-ranked Stanford go 1-0-1 against nationally ranked opponents.
